When launching a medical writing career, writers may choose positions in any sector –eager to get work experience. However, after a few years, it’s worthwhile to become an expert in a specific niche. This will allow you to earn higher wages, and be viewed as an expert in your field. Here are two specialties to consider when searching for medical writing opportunities.

Regulatory writing. With this type of writing, you’ll work on projects, including: protocols, patient information leaflets, clinical study reports and investigator brochures.

Marketing materials. In this specialty, you’ll focus on creating training materials, advertising pieces, slide kits, literature reviews and posters.

As a medical writer, you can also specialize in a specific industry, such as pharmaceuticals, biotech or medical devise. Having a focused background in one of these areas will make your skills more marketable for future medical writing jobs.
