August 6, 2010, Newsletter Issue #58: Life Sciences Employment: Marketing your Resume

Tip of the Week

A resume is one of your most powerful marketing tools when searching for a life sciences job. Once you’ve updated your resume, it’s time to create a marketing strategy for getting it in front of potential employers. Here are a few tips to get started.

Get your resume in front of a staffing firm. Companies that specialize in the life sciences industry can match you with employers that fit your career goals. Also, it will streamline your job search, with a team of professionals working to find you a job.

Use keywords in your resume. If you’re uploading resumes online, make sure to make them “employer friendly.” This can be achieved by reviewing life sciences job descriptions, and picking out common keywords. Then weave these words into your resume.

Send your resume directly to recruiters. Even if companies aren’t hiring, it doesn’t mean a position isn’t opening up soon. Contact pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device firms, and talk with recruiters before forwarding your resume. This way, they’ll be expecting your resume.
